PRESIDENT | EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
Karin Thomas became Executive Director in February of 2018 after serving two years as Public Relations Director. Her service in the community has included mentoring refugees, leading creative writing at a juvenile detention center, and serving on the boards of non-profits dedicated to sustainability practices in the community. Karin and her husband have four children and two grandchildren.
TREASURER | eMERITUS PRESIDENT
Melanie Hart Shashindranath became treasurer in February 2018, after serving two years as President and Executive Director. Her world travels and religious focus on serving and charity have provided her with a passion to serve in and around the Mark Twain Elementary community. Melanie and her husband have one son and two daughters, and she works part-time at Deloitte Tax LLP as a tax accountant.
DIRECTOR OF VOLUNTEERS
Holley M. Harwood was excited to be a part of L3’s humble beginnings in November 2014. Her goal is to ensure that each willing volunteer has a place and feels needed, and she loves the work of sorting, reading, hauling, greeting and interacting with children. Holley was a teacher with the Long Beach Unified School District in California before moving to Kansas. She and her husband have four wonderful children that support and inspire her.
DIRECTOR OF eDUCATION
Christi Clayton has been part of L3 from the beginning and has taught at Mark Twain Elementary for 16 years. She is passionate about bridging the gap in all areas of need for her students and their families, many of whom need help adjusting to new lives in the United States. Christi works tirelessly to improve students’ literacy so they can be successful in all aspects of life. In 2014, Christi and Kimberley Montini developed a summer enrichment program that continues at Mark Twain today. Christi and her husband have two children.
