At L3, our mission is to provide children with love, help them attain literacy, and provide some of the basic necessities of life that will enable them to grow, function, and successfully contribute their talents and abilities to their families and communities.

Help provide food for Mark Twain Elementary children over the holidays by donating and volunteering.  Go to the Volunteer page for more information.  We hope to see you!

Red stars show the many countries that contribute to the beautiful diversity at Mark Twain Elementary, the school our efforts are primarily focused on at this current time.

Giving Tuesday. Have you heard of it? It's a day of global giving!
••••••••••
As we approach the holiday season, our society tends to focus on the material- what we get. What if we could change that focus? And give back?
••••••••••
#givingtuesday comes after Black Friday, after Cyber Monday. This year, on November 28, what will you give?

Join us for #givingtuesday2017! Help us make organizations like #l3loveliteracylife able to help more children and families in need! And put the #spiritofgiving back into your holiday season. #makeadifference #servekc #serve

Reading aloud is, according to the landmark 1985 report "Becoming a Nation of Readers," "the single most important activity for building the knowledge required for eventual success in reading."

Despite this fact, many families below the poverty level fail to realize the importance of this single act. And children from low-income families are less likely to have exposure to reading materials.

It's vital that each child, in each home, be read aloud to at least 15 minutes every day.

Last year's #l3fooddrive brought with it so many miracles. These faces are those of children who used their education to take action!

When the inspiration came to involve more schools and organizations to #fillthebags for #marktwainelementary, the student council at John Diemer Elementary School heard the call to action loud and clear. This incredible group of students took on the challenge to collect 2,400 packages of Ramen noodles and bested it! Then the student council rented a bus to deliver their collected goods straight to #marktwainelementary! These kids turned their determination to #makeadifference into a #miracleformarktwainelementary!!

How will you #makeadifferenceformarktwainelementary this year? Stay tuned on how you can help us turn your good will into action!

This post from @nokidhungry illustrates how L3 came to be! Teachers are more than educators, and they know children need very basics of life in order to be able to learn! Our annual #l3fooddrive grew from a teacher and her friends wanting to be able to feed hungry students! Stay tuned here for more on how you can help us #fillthebags this holiday season for the families at #marktwainelementary! #l3loveliteracylife #servekc #serve #makeadifference ... See MoreSee Less
